Report: Patriots Fullback James Develin Breaks Leg In Preseason Game

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots beat the Carolina Panthers in the third game of the preseason on Friday, but suffered a tough blow in the process.

The Boston Globe reports that fullback James Develin sustained a broken leg after being tackled by David Mayo in the fourth quarter. Develin stayed down for several minutes and had to be carted off the field after his ankle appeared to get caught in the turf.

The Globe says the injury could be season-ending, but ESPN reports that the team is hoping for a recovery time of six-to-eight weeks.

Develin caught a touchdown in last season's AFC Championship against the Indianapolis Colts.
