Hanley Ramirez Takes Some Reps At First Base
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox are apparently trying another new experiment with Hanley Ramirez.
Ramirez was signed in the offseason to play left field, a position he had never played before. The results have been, well, not good, to put it kindly.
In 91 games in left this season, Ramirez has committed just four errors, but has missed countless balls he should have caught and taken some interesting routes to others.
So with one experiment not working, the Red Sox are trying another. On Tuesday in Chicago, Ramirez was seen putting in some work at first base -- another position he has never played before.
Ramirez was accompanied by Boston third base coach Brian Butterfield and slugger David Ortiz, who has 275 career games at first.
He was back in the lineup in left field for Tuesday night's game against the White Sox.
The Red Sox signed Ramirez to a four-year, $88 million deal in the offseason.
