Woman Brutally Attacked In Lowell

LOWELL (CBS) -- Police are looking for a man that sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman in Lowell early Sunday morning.

The woman was walking on Middlesex Street shortly before 4a.m. when she was attacked from behind. Police say the man dragged her down an alleyway and knocked her to the ground. Someone heard the woman screaming and intervened causing the man to run away.

The woman fled to the Branch St. Fire Station to seek help. She was taken to Lowell General Hospital. No word on her condition.

Police say the man is in his early 20s with light-colored hair and medium build. He was wearing a red T-shirt and was last seen running on Nichols Street towards Westford Street. Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to call Lowell police.
