Man Who Allegedly Fired Gun Near Fitchburg State Held Without Bail

FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man accused of firing a gun near the Fitchburg State University campus has been held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, but his lawyer questions the evidence.

Twenty-eight-year-old Justin Beauregard was arraigned Friday on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and possession of ammunition without a firearms ID in connection to the gunfire Thursday night. The campus was locked down and no one was hurt.

The new semester doesn't start until next month and few students were around.

Police were alerted by Beauregard's mother that he had left home with a gun.

Beauregard's attorney, Gary Sichau, says no gun or ammunition has been recovered.

The dangerousness hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
