Dicky Eklund, Portrayed In 'The Fighter,' Charged With Lowell Assault

LOWELL (CBS) – The former boxer who was portrayed by Christian Bale in the Academy Award winning movie "The Fighter" was arrested following a domestic incident in Lowell.

Richard "Dicky" Eklund, 58, of Lowell was arrested Friday at 4 p.m. after he allegedly grabbed a woman by the arm and threw her to the ground.

The woman had bruises on her arm and chest after the alleged incident.

Eklund is the half-brother of former boxer Micky Ward.

In 2010 Eklund was played by Christian Bale in the Hollywood film about Ward's journey. Bale won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Eklund in The Fighter.

Mark Wahlberg played the role of Ward.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced on Friday that Eklund was charged with assault and battery on a family or household member.

He was released on $500 cash bail and ordered to stay away from the alleged victim.

Eklund is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on September 21.
