Man Allegedly Tries To Abduct Girl In Manchester, NH
MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) -- A 30-year-old Candia, New Hampshire man allegedly tried to abduct a girl in Manchester, New Hampshire on Tuesday.
Timothy Wallingford has been charged with disorderly conduct and kidnapping.
Police were initially called to the TD Bank on South Main Street around 3:30 p.m. on a report of a suspicious person.
The manager told police that a white man with multiple tattoos entered the bank acting strange.
He was fumbling with deposit slips, and he wrote his name on a pamphlet and gave it to a teller while mumbling, police say.
He left without making a transaction.
Then, he allegedly stood in front of the drive-up ATM for several minutes, refusing to let customers use it.
He eventually left the area.
Investigators also looked into a report that a man matching the description given by witnesses at the bank allegedly tried to purchase $900 worth of gift cards at a Walgreens by holding up his cell phone as payment.
The clerk told the man to leave the store, police said.
At about 4:30 p.m., officers were called to Family Dollar at 130 West Hancock St.
The same man also was allegedly seen taking a six-year-old girl by the hand and started walking her away, but her nine-year-old sister grabbed her hand, pulled her away, and told her mother what happened.
Police later found Wallingford inside the Family Dollar store and took him into custody.
He allegedly told police that he had had been injecting crystal meth, and had not slept in two weeks.
Wallingford was scheduled for arraignment in a Manchester court on Wednesday.
