Keller @ Large: Donald Trump Is A Show-Biz Master

BOSTON (CBS) - One of the things I really appreciate about the WBZ audience is your willingness to let me know exactly what you think of what I say, and Wednesday, after I gave Donald Trump the needle for his insults toward Massachusetts pols and celebs, some of you made it clear you loved it, while others hated it.

Today, I'm flipping the script.

I went to Derry, New Hampshire Wednesday night to observe Trump in action, and while I stand by my previous observations that his propensity for unnecessary insults and non-existent governing or diplomatic experience makes his election very unlikely, I have to acknowledge that the man is a show-biz master.

Start with the press conference, which was announced as ten minutes but wound up running more that twice that long. Trump knows nothing feeds the media beast the way a nice, long Q & A session does. He was ready for all questions with well-prepared, if mostly substance-free, responses, and never broke a sweat.

Outside the hall, people waiting in long lines in the heat were treated to bottled water passed out by Trump aides. Inside, the waiting crowd was treated to a playlist of heavy-metal hits, none of the usual Springsteen or Fleetwood Mac chestnuts for the Trump campaign.

And when he came onstage, Trump kept the crowd laughing and cheering, at one point mocking the notion that they wanted the dry policy details the media keeps asking for.

All in all, a bravura performance by an accomplished showman.

But is that enough to be elected commander-in-chief?
