Malcom Brown, Ryan Groy Scrap At Patriots Practice

FOXBORO (CBS) – Temperatures were hot Saturday in Foxboro. Tempers were boiling as well.

Rookie defensive lineman Malcom Brown and recently acquired offensive lineman Ryan Groy were both sent off the practice field early after a brief fight broke out in the closing minutes of practice.

According to reports from the final training camp practice that is open to the public, head coach Bill Belichick immediately sent Groy back to the locker room.

Brown was soon to follow, though he was forced to run a lap first.

Patriots defensive end Chandler Jones told reporters he did not see the fight, but said it's not uncommon for things to get physical in practice.

"Actually, I did not see that, but to comment on that, practice is always going to be competitive. You might see a time where you get an extra push in or something," Jones said. "That's just how the sport goes, so you've kind of got to nullify that by just playing. That's just how practice goes. It's very competitive."

The Patriots will travel to West Virginia this week, where they will hold joint practices with the New Orleans Saints in advance of the Patriots-Saints preseason game on Saturday.
