Tom Brady Will Play Thursday Night

BOSTON (CBS) -- It sounds like fans heading to the Patriots preseason opener on Thursday night will get to see Tom Brady after all.

ESPN reported Wednesday that Brady would sit out New England's preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers at Gillette, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore according to 98.5 The Sports Hub's Marc Bertrand and James Stewart.

ESPN's Mike Reiss reported earlier Thursday the Patriots were leaving the door open for No. 12 to take some snaps.

It will likely be a brief appearance for Brady, only a series or two, with backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo still getting the start according to Reiss. Brady did not play in last season's preseason opener against the Washington Redskins, but played 19 snaps in each of the two previous preseason openers.

Brady did not practice Tuesday, as he prepared for his Wednesday settlement hearing on the DeflateGate saga in New York. But he was back at Gillette Stadium early Thursday morning, and appears to be ready to go if he gets the call at any point Thursday night.

Tune in to Thursday's preseason opener on 98.5 The Sports Hub and WBZ-TV — the flagship stations of the New England Patriots! Pregame coverage on 98.5 FM begins at 3:30pm, and on WBZ-TV at 7pm with Patriots GameDay!
