Quincy Teacher Killed By Alleged Drunk Driver Remembered Fondly

QUINCY (CBS) -- If the continuous line around the funeral home was any indication, Emily Zarnoch affected a lot of people.

"She had a very infectious smile and the turout here today should tell everybody she was loved," said a woman paying her respects to Zarnoch.

Emily was 23 years old.

She was walking with her boyfriend in York, Maine when police say she was hit by a drunk driver.

Officers arrested 21-year-old Carolyn Lee, who's now charged with manslaughter.

She has a driving record that includes having drugs and alcohol in the car.

WBZ spoke with Emily's father, John Zarnoch, last week.

"It's hard to reconcile that we know life isn't fair," he said.

Emily grew up in Quincy. She served as a substitute teacher at Central Middle School.

This fall she was set to be a full-time teacher. Those who knew her say that's all she talked about.

"It gave her life," says the woman paying respects to Emily.

"She grew up in the school system and she just wanted to give back."

Now, saying goodbye in the place she loved seems the most fitting tribute.

A funeral is scheduled Monday for Emily at 10:30 a.m.
