Suspect Arrested For Murder Of Swampscott Mother

SWAMPSCOTT (CBS) -- Police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a Swampscott woman.

Jason Fleury, 37, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Hampton, Va. after a grand jury issued a secret indictment on Friday charging him with murder.

Police say Fleury, a level-3 sex offender, was the last person to be seen with 25-year-old Jaimee Mendez before she went missing in November 2014.

A search of an industrial area in Salem uncovered her jacket, cellphone, a charger and identification. In Lynn, her sneakers and men's clothing were found in a dumpster. Her body was found on King's Beach in Swampscott in January.

"This has been a long and pain-staking investigation, with a single goal: justice for Jaimee Mendez," District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said in a public statement.

Fleury will be arraigned in Virginia on Wednesday and is expected to return to Massachusetts at a later date.
