Keller @ Large: Here's The Good News

BOSTON (CBS) - TGIF, if you'll pardon the cliché, especially because it's been one of those weeks where, if you have to follow the news closely to make a living, you want to go hide under the bed until someone makes the bad news stop.

The presidential race is already every bit as horrible as we feared it might be, with fringe candidates in both parties soaking up attention while everyone screams at each other over issues like abortion and immigration that aren't anywhere near the top of most voters' list, but serve the screamers' purpose of being as divisive as possible.

The sports news provides no escape, from the pathetic Olympics saga to the depressing NFL/Tom Brady standoff to the Red Sox, about whom nothing more need be said.

And the weather this week – well, we agreed we wouldn't complain about hot, humid weather after what we went through last winter, now didn't we?

So with all this bad news front and center, it behooves us to work a little harder to find the silver lining in the news cycle, and that's what I've tried to do.

The good news about the presidential campaign around these parts is that it generates revenue for TV and radio stations who need it, and all sorts of economic activity in New Hampshire, where they count on it. By all means, hapless or crazy millionaires of America, come on up and drop a bundle while you're running!

The good news about the sports scene is that in the end, it's just a meaningless diversion. And it will be enjoyably diverting to see how the Pats run up the score on the also-rans this year.

And the good news about the weather?

Let me answer that question with a question that should leave you feeling great – are you doing any shoveling these days?

You can listen to Keller At Large on WBZ News Radio every weekday at 7:55 a.m. You can also watch Jon on WBZ-TV News.
