2 Injured In Salisbury Crash

SALISBURY (CBS) -- Officials say two people were hurt after a van struck a pedestrian and then crashed into a tree in Salisbury on Saturday.

Officers and firefighters were called to the Beach Road area near Foote's Ice Cream shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Fire officials say the driver crossed traffic and the yellow center line, sideswiped a man walking on the sidewalk and struck the tree.

A brown van with a yellow logo on the side sustained significant front-end damage.

The man hit by the van suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

A man driving the van also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

They were taken to Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport.

Daniel Jackson, who claimed to have seen the crash, said on his Facebook page that he "just witnessed a van lose control, cross traffic, hit a person standing on the sidewalk, and then slam into a tree...Using Jaws of Life to get driver out of van."

It took several minutes for the driver to the freed from the van.

Officers are investigating the crash.
