Report: Celtics, Nuggets Discussed Gallinari Swap

BOSTON (CBS) -- With things all quiet on the free agency front, the Celtics are reportedly hard at work on the trade market this summer.

According to The Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett, the Celtics and Nuggets recently discussed a trade for small forward Danillo Gallinari. Nothing came of the talks, but Bulpett makes it sound like the conversation may pick up again.

The rumors make sense, with the Celtics in need of a scoring wing. The 6-foot-10 Gallinari can play both forward positions, something the Celtics could desperately use at the moment, and can certainly put the ball in the basket.

Gallinari, who will turn 27 in August, has averaged 14.2 points per game over his seven-year career, hitting 42 percent of his shots. He's a 37 percent shooter from three-point land, and averaged 18.7 points per game following the All-Star break last season for the Nuggets.

The sixth overall pick by the Knicks in 2008, Gallinari has had some injury issues the last three seasons. But acquiring him wouldn't be a very big risk for Boston as he's scheduled to become a free agent after this season.

Given Boston's collection of power forwards and guards, and the rebuild that is currently going on in Denver, Gallinari is a player that Celtics fans should be keeping an eye on this summer.
