Couple Celebrates 60th Anniversary, Returns To Salisbury Beach Where Journey Began

SALISBURY (CBS) - It was 1955, in the atmospheric magic of summertime at Salisbury Beach, when two young people, Phyllis Caterino and Tony Cusimano, met for the first time.

"They spent time talking and later went out to the front porch of the cottage and under the stars at Salisbury Beach they fell in love," their daughter Leanne Cusimano told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

Waves of attraction washed onto the shore of possibility, two became one.

They've been married for 60 years now, with their anniversary on Thursday.

So Leanne is bringing mom and dad back to where they first met for a surprise anniversary dinner.

"We're going back to the scene of the crime," she joked. "I think they are just going to be flabbergasted."

Leanne wants to hear the stories.  She wants to listen as mom and dad reminisce, as they show their daughter the threads of life that have been woven into a quilt of affection for 60 years.

What's their secret?

"I think Italian guilt would keep them together because one couldn't survive five minutes without the other and they'd feel guilty leaving," she said.

"But, truthfully, I think it's just their shared loyalty to one another, their devotion to our family. The fact that they're good friends, they do everything together. There's a love there that just can't be beat."
