Threat For Localized Flooding Wednesday
Sticky, soupy, oppressive, sweaty – use whatever adjective you like – it's humid out there! The steamy air will fuel downpours and thunderstorms as a cold front sweeps through later on today. With so much moisture in the atmosphere, the biggest risk today is for torrential downpours that could drop 2"+ of rain in a short period of time, resulting in localized flooding. A flash flood watch in effect for Boston to Cape Cod until 8 PM this evening.
I'm not expecting widespread severe weather, but a few storms could approach severe levels, mainly from the South Shore to the south coast from late afternoon into the evening. The Sox shouldn't have any issues tonight for the game – most of the action will be south of Fenway by first pitch.
Any lingering storms should dissipate this evening as the front pushes offshore and stalls to our south. Less humid air works into the region tonight and it won't be nearly as hot tomorrow – expect highs in the 70s tomorrow under mostly cloudy skies. The next wave of low pressure will pass just to our south tomorrow night, bringing another round of rain/downpours around sunset Thursday into the pre-dawn Friday in southeast MA.
By Friday we're back into the sunshine and warmth with humidity still in check. We warm up even more this weekend (85-90) with mostly dry weather, except for Sunday evening when a few storms may pop inland. Looks like the 80s are going to stick around for most of next week too.
Stay tuned to WBZ through the day today – we'll cut into programming as warranted and keep you posted on the flood threat. Remember…if a flash flood warning is issued, that means flooding is imminent and you should seek higher ground immediately. Do NOT attempt to drive through flood waters.
