New York Stock Exchange Trading Resumes After Technical Glitch

BOSTON (CBS) - Trading on the New York Stock Exchange has resumed after being halted for more than three hours because of a technical glitch.

"We're currently experiencing a technical issue that we're working to resolve as quickly as possible," a Stock Exchange spokeswoman said in an email to CBS New York late Wednesday morning.

Trading resumed at 3:10 p.m.

In a series of Twitter posts, the NYSE said the problem is an internal technical issue and not the result of a cyberattack. The Stock Exchange also said it chose to suspend trading to avoid other problems.

A law enforcement source told CBS News Justice and Homeland Security Correspondent Jeff Pegues there is no indication of a cyberattack at this point in the investigation.

The issue seemed to be confined to the NYSE, which is the world's largest stock exchange.

"Obviously there is something in the mainframe of the New York Stock Exchange that is not allowing quotes to be disseminated," financial expert Art Hogan told CBS News. "I'm sure it's being worked on as quickly as possible, and we're going to try to get trading back up and going."

Earlier Wednesday, a computer issue forced United Airlines to ground all of its flights nationwide for about an hour.
