Driver Flips Car, Allegedly Steals Phone From Good Samaritan

LEICESTER (CBS) -- A driver who flipped his car in Leicester Monday night stole the phone of a motorist who stopped to help before fleeing into the woods, police say.

The crash was reported on Route 56 at Edward Street at about 9:45 p.m., and police were told that the driver took advantage of someone who wanted to help.

"Prior to fleeing into the woods the operator of the vehicle that flipped over asked a good Samaritan who stopped to assist if he could use his phone," Leicester police said. "When the good Samaritan handed the operator of the crashed vehicle his phone the suspect fled into the woods with the phone."

After a three-hour search involving local and state police, the two occupants of the car were found in Oxford.

The driver faces numerous charges, including theft. The passenger is not currently facing charges.

Police did not release the name of the driver.
