Victim Of Fatal Methuen Crash Identified

METHUEN, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts State Police have identified a man who was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 in Methuen.

Troopers say 24-year-old Rafael Sandoval of Lawrence died in the accident that happened at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Two other people were injured.

Authorities say they're trying to determine whether Sandoval was driving the car that caused the crash.

State police say the driver of a Honda Accord traveling in the southbound lanes veered into the breakdown lane for some reason, then struck a flatbed tow truck with a car in its bed in the breakdown lane. The Accord then hit another car being driven on the highway.

The highway didn't fully reopen until just before 9 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
