Woman Found Dead After Burlington Hotel Guests Report Screams, Gunshots

BURLINGTON (CBS) – The Extended Stay America hotel in Burlington was a crime scene throughout the day after the body of a woman was discovered in a first floor room.

Hotel guests heard the disturbing sound of gunfire just after midnight.

"We heard a gunshot," said Bobby Dingess, whose room was a few doors down. "Someone was trying to say it was a slamming door but I knew it was a gunshot."

Calls then flooded the front desk and Burlington police were notified.

"Burlington police responded to their 911 call and did a room-to-room search," said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. "A woman was found deceased in a guest room."

Investigators have not yet been able to identify the victim, and were carefully screening guests on their way into the hotel.

"I came in and the police asked me if I was a guess here and I showed him the key," said Freddie Nzekele.

With few answers the heavy police presence rattled some guests like Lee Zee who decided to check out.

"Nobody is able to answer a single question. They said it was an incident and there were concerns, but nobody has giving us any solid information about anything," Zee said.

Investigators confirm it's a homicide investigation, but will wait for the medical examiner to determine the cause of death. They are hoping there might be surveillance video to help them.

The district attorney won't say how long the victim had been staying at the hotel.

"I'm concerned about safety in general," said Bobby Dingess. "I don't know what the situation is."
