Lowell Man Charged For Fleeing Pelham, NH Crash

PELHAM, N.H. (CBS) -- A Lowell man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly fled the scene of a crash in Pelham, New Hampshire on Thursday night.

Officers were called to Sherburne Road at 7:18 p.m. A man ran into a wooded area near Long Pond after the accident.

Police say they found a 1995 blue Geo Prizm that had spun out and was off the paved part of the road before it crashed onto a fence.

Several witnesses gave police a description of the suspect and saw him running through yards heading toward Hudson, N.H. The man also allegedly asked people in the area for help, but ended up turning back in the direction from which he came.

A Salem, N.H. K-9 unit helped Pelham police find the man hiding under a porch.

Michael Fitzgerald, 27, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, conduct after an accident, and resisting arrest.

He was not hurt in the crash, police say.

Fitzgerald was released on personal recognizance with a court date July 13 at the 10th Circuit Court District Division-Salem.
