Veteran Receives High School Diploma 62 Years After Joining Air Force

BOSTON (CBS) - Sixty-two years after Herb Raffelson, 81, last walked in his high school, he finally received his diploma.

Herb grew up in Dorchester. Much to his parents displeasure he left high school to fight in the Korean War.

He joined the Air Force in February and the war ended in May. He served his four years and got his G.E.D. Life took over - Herb had four kids and a successful career as singer/entertainer Herbie Rae.

He received his diploma from English High School this graduation season.

He was able to receive it as part of Operation Recognition. It's a program to give diplomas to honorable discharged veterans who left high school to serve in WWII, Korea or Vietnam.

Boston Public Schools gave three this year.
