Zolak & Bertrand: Baseball Controversy At Lincoln-Sudbury High School

BOSTON (CBS) - The Massachusetts world of high school baseball is enveloped in disbelief, because earlier this week Lincoln-Sudbury's athletic director informed three-time state champion Kirk Fredericks that he would not be brought back as the head coach of the Warriors.

Dan Ventura of the Boston Herald was the first to report on Fredericks' removal.

Fredericks leaves the school after 14 years with an overall win-loss record of 269-68. In a statement to the Herald, Fredericks cited the school's new administration as a point of contention over the last two years, specifically in how he handled meetings with students and parents.

Complaints from parents to coaches is nothing new, but firing a coach with as much success as Fredericks has had is very uncommon, and is being met with backlash around the state.

Coach Fredericks sent out this tweet late Tuesday night:

98.5 The Sports Hub's Scott Zolak and Marc Bertrand began Wednesday's show discussing the controversy.

Bertrand spoke with CSNNE's Gary Tanguay, and according to Gary, the rumor is that Fredericks called one of his players a d**chebag, and a parent filed a bullying complaint.

ESPN Boston's Brendan Hall has worked the Massachusetts high school sports beat for awhile, and he's covered baseball at Lincoln-Sudbury extensively. Zolak & Bertrand spoke with Hall later in the hour to get more information.
