Not Guilty Plea For Malden Woman Charged With Killing Mother
MALDEN, Mass. (CBS/AP) — A not guilty plea has been entered for a Malden woman charged with fatally stabbing her mother.
Police responding to a request for a well-being check at about 10:30 a.m. Monday found the victim, 58-year-old Marie Luxama, suffering from multiple stab wounds inside a Main Street apartment. Luxama was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The Middlesex district attorney's office says the victim's daughter, Sharlyn Savain, was placed in custody at the scene and charged with murder.
Grieving relates were present at Savain's arraignment in Malden District Court Tuesday, where a not guilty plea was entered on her behalf. A judge ordered that she undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Police Chief Kevin Molis called the slaying a "terrible act of domestic violence," and said it "was not a random incident."
According to a police report, Savain went up to her landlord's apartment after killing her mother, punched him, and said "I killed her, and I'm killing you!"
Savain told police "Lord Jesus I did it. I did it" when they stopped her from running out of the home, the report stated.
