SWAT Team Search At Lawrence Building Ends With Man's Arrest

LAWRENCE (CBS) – A SWAT team searched a commercial building Sunday afternoon in Lawrence after receiving a report of three gunmen in the area that turned out to be false, but it did lead to the arrest of a man allegedly connected to a home invasion.

Several law enforcement agencies participated in the search at the Canal Street mill building including a Massachusetts State Police helicopter, Lawrence police, State Police and K9 units.

Lawrence police chief James Fitzpatrick told WBZ-TV's Paul Burton that they received an initial report of three possible gunmen inside the building before "the story unraveled."

Police have not yet identified the man arrested. Fitzpatrick told WBZ that the man worked at the building.

No additional details related to the man's arrest have been released.

The scene was cleared by 6 p.m.
