Patriots Reportedly Sign Quarterback Matt Flynn
BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots have added another quarterback to their depth chart.
The Patriots have reportedly signed veteran passer Matt Flynn, according to Dianna Marie Russini of ESPN.
After leading LSU to the BCS National Championship, Flynn was a seventh-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2008. He started his carer backing up Aaron Rodgers, and completing 9-of-17 passes his first two seasons in the NFL. He got his first career start in 2010 with Rodgers sidelined with a concussion, called on to start against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium.
In that game, Flynn threw for three touchdowns and 254 yards in a 31-27 loss. He had the Packers down to the New England 15-yard line in the closing seconds, but a sack by Tully Banta-Cain ended any threat of a Packers comeback.
Flynn has played for four different teams during his seven-year NFL career, including two stops in Green Bay. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2012 but was quickly replaced by rookie Russell Wilson, and then spent time with the Buffalo Bills, Packers and Oakland Raiders in 2013.
In his career, Flynn has completed 61.3 percent of his passes, tossing 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
According to Russini, Flynn was not signed because of Tom Brady's four-game suspension by the NFL. She is reporting that the Patriots simply wanted a veteran QB for training camp.
