Middleboro Girl, 4, Calls 911 When Mother Suffers Seizure

MIDDLEBORO (CBS) -- Authorities are commending a 4-year-old girl for her "heroic" response to her mother's medical emergency.

Middleboro police say they got a report from Massachusetts State Police on the afternoon of May 11 about multiple 911 hangup calls from someone sounding like a "little kid," saying that "grandma fell off the couch."

It turned out the child was Ava L'heureux, who dialed 911 when her mother, Kirsten Montelo, had a seizure.

Middleboro officers responded to find Montel on the floor "actively seizing."

"Ava was able to tell us exactly what happened to Montelo, who is her mother," police said. "Ava also informed us that she was the one who had called 911 and that as her mother was beginning to fall off the couch, she told her to call 911."

Ava also watched over her two younger brothers during the ordeal, and she received some high praise from police.

"If not for her actions, her mother could have been down for some time before help arrived," police said.

The Middleboro Board of Selectmen awarded Ava a "proclamation for heroic actions" this week.
