Felger & Mazz: Bogaerts' Double, Celebration 'The Snapshot Of The Season'

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox are riding a three-game winning streak, their longest of the 2015 season, following a sweep of the Oakland Athletics this weekend.

Boston completed the sweep with a dramatic seven-run rally in the eighth inning on Sunday. While it came against the lowly A's, it's still one of those wins that could potentially spark a turnaround for the relatively lifeless Red Sox.

98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger and Mazz are hoping such a turnaround does take place, but aren't convinced just yet.

"All of a sudden they get a game like that and rally for seven runs on eight hits, sweeping a series in the process. That's enough to say, 'OK, that is what you are capable of. That is something this team should be able to do,'" said Tony Massarotti. "Not all the time; nobody comes back down 4-0 in the eighth regularly. But every now and then, show us you're fighting through it."

Xander Bogaerts was a big part of Sunday's rally, doubling high off the Green Monster to drive in two runs and give Boston a 5-4 lead. It was the only hit of the day for Boston's shortstop, but he really made it count.

"I think this kid is a stud in the making," said Mazz. "He has the capacity to do a lot of things, and do them well."

What really stuck out to Felger was Bogaerts' reaction after, pointing to the Boston dugout in celebration.

"That's the snapshot of the season," he said. "If you still have hopes and think they can turn it around, Bogaerts on second base gesturing to the dugout after he hit that double, that's the snapshot of the season."

"It was awesome; all you're looking for is some energy, some life, some fight," said Mazz. "Now, the A's suck. Can we make that clear to everybody?... For the most part [they were] facing a bunch of nobodies. Let's not get too geeked up yet, but all things, considered, I'll take it given where they were."

However, everyone in the AL East won on Sunday, so Boston remains 5.5 back from the New York Yankees in the American League East. They now head to Baltimore to face division-foe Baltimore for three games, before returning home for three against Toronto Blue Jays and two against the Atlanta Braves.

"This is a big week for the Red Sox, again. They all are when you played like the Red Sox played. You can't go into any slippage here because then you're 10 back and you're buried," said Mazz. "Just keep taking two-of-three."
