Protesters Call For End To Spectra Pipeline Outside Baker's Home
SWAMPSCOTT (CBS) - Several dozen protesters gathered outside of Gov. Charlie Baker's Swampscott home to call for an end to the expansion of the Spectra Energy pipeline expansion into Massachusetts and New England.
Police say there were about 50-to-60 people that participated in the Saturday afternoon protest.
Spectra has said it will help increase demand and reduce energy costs by constructing the gas pipeline. In a study, Spectra says the project would, "not result in significant increased public safety risk."
The five-mile pipeline is expected to run through Westwood and Dedham and end at the active quarry in West Roxbury.
State Police assisted Swampscott officers to monitor the scene.
The protest was peaceful, and no one was arrested.
