Boy Seriously Hurt After Fall From Taunton Apartment Window

TAUNTON (CBS) – A four-year-old boy was seriously hurt after he fell out of a window in Taunton.

The child fell out of a second-floor window of an apartment on Highland Street late Friday night.

Neighbors told WBZ-TV's Paul Burton they found the boy across the street, laying on the ground, bleeding from a cut near his mouth. They also claimed he may have been struck by a car as he crossed the street.

He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with what police say are serious injuries.

Neighbors said it appeared the boy was home alone.

"'Cop asked me if I recognized the boy because nobody knew where his parents were," resident Shannon Sherburne told Burton.

"It was just like panic trying to find the parents of the child," said neighbor Vee Johnson.

Police would not say if they found the parents or if they faced any charges. No names were released.

The boy's toys were spread all over the lawn and on part of the front door overhang, just below the window on Saturday.

"I'm in shock and I don't understand how people let this happen to their children, he was only four years old," Sherburne said.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
