Gloucester Soldier Receives Bronze Star
GLOUCESTER (CBS) – A Gloucester solider was rewarded for his combat bravery when he was presented the Bronze Star during a Friday ceremony.
Isaac Pike was a squad leader with the Massachusetts Army National Guard in March 2003 when his unit was pinned down by an ambush in Iraq.
Under Pike's leadership the unit was able to escape. One of his superiors said that Pike's actions likely saved American lives that day.
On Friday during a ceremony at Gloucester City Hall, Pike received the Bronze Star with Valor Device for Courageous Acts in Combat.
Pike didn't speak to reporters after Friday's ceremony, but his mother, Brenda Pike, told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens that it was a day for her family to celebrate.
"Probably one of the proudest days of my life," she said. "And on the other hand I'm not surprised because Isaac has always been very loyal, loyal to all friends and family and anyone he knows."
