Daily Talker: Fat-Shaming Apology

Women's clothing company Lilly Pulitzer is apologizing today following a picture posted online that quickly drew outrage.

The issue began when New York Magazine was doing a behind-the-scenes story at the company's main offices near Philadelphia.  As part of that story, the magazine took pictures that show what life is like for an employee.  Some photos included outfits with colorful patterns and walls hung with sketches for inspiration.

But one showed something much different.  The photo showed two sketches fat-shaming overweight women pinned to a wall in the office. The company says it was the work of one employee in that person's personal space.

One of the images reads, "Just another day of fat, white and hideous. You should probably just kill yourself." Another read, "Put it down, carb face."

Lilly Pulitzer has apologized.

"While we are an employer that does encourage people to decorate their space, we are a female-dominated company and these images do not reflect our values. These illustrations were the work of one individual and were posted in her personal work area."

What do you think of the controversy surrounding a Lilly Pulitzer employee's work-space cartoons that shamed overweight women?
