Mother Of 7-Year-Old Shot In Dorchester Pleads For Community's Help

BOSTON (CBS) -- The mother of 7-year old Divan Silva, who was shot in Dorchester while riding his bike on Sunday, is urging any witnesses to help identify the shooter.

Silva, of Brockton, is recovering from surgery after being struck by a bullet in the buttocks. He was visiting his grandmother for Memorial Day weekend.

"I do ask the public to please help the Boston Police find who did this by coming forward and sharing any information you might have," Silva's mother Dijanira DeAndrade said in a public statement Tuesday.

"The Boston police have assured me they are working hard to find the perpetrator and my family and I are hopeful they are caught soon," she said.

A 20-year-old man was also grazed in the head and is expected to be OK.

Police have described the shooter as a 14 to 18-year-old light-skinned male, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and wearing a red hoodie and tan pants. Police say the suspect may have fled in a newer model white 4-door sedan after the shooting.
