Boston Officer Placed On Leave During Criminal Investigation

BOSTON (AP) — Boston Police Commissioner William Evans says a city officer has been placed on paid administrative leave during a criminal investigation by local and federal authorities.

Evans says Officer David Fitzgerald was put on leave Thursday night. Fitzgerald is the brother of Boston Police Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald.

Evans and other officials did not release details of the investigation or any allegations against David Fitzgerald. He says the investigation is being conducted by the city police Anti-Corruption Unit and the FBI.

Fitzgerald is a 19-year veteran patrolman assigned to the city's Roxbury section. A phone listing for him couldn't immediately be found Friday.

Officials from the U.S. attorney's office and the FBI declined to comment.
