Missing Arlington 12-Year-Old Girl Found Safe

ARLINGTON (CBS) -- A missing 12-year-old girl who may have run away from home has been found safe, Arlington police said.

Officials said Thursday morning that Catherine (Katie) Mesick is missing. About two hours later, police said she was found safe in Waltham.

Arlington Police Chief Fred Ryan had told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 that she was last seen late Wednesday evening at her Lake Street home, and she left a note.

"There's no indication to us that she's been abducted," Ryan said.

Police said on Twitter they are investigating this as a "possible runaway situation."

Mesick may be on a bicycle, Ryan said. Investigators are using electronic means, including cellphone pinging, to try and find her.

"We're giving this case a very high priority," Ryan said. "We're very hopeful we'll be able to bring her home safely here in the very near future."
