4.0 Graduate Surprised By Marriage Proposal At Commencement

BRIDGEWATER (CBS) -- Bridgewater State University graduate Ashley Nelson got more than just a degree during graduation over the weekend.

The Pennsylvania native was being recognized at commencement by the school's president for her perfect 4.0 GPA.

"Now I certainly wanted to honor you for that achievement," President Dana Mohler-Faria said. "But. . . there is someone else here who would like to ask you a question."

That's when boyfriend Josh Tillinghast, of Norwood, joined her onstage and got down on one knee.

"You're my best friend in the world," the Bridgewater senior said. "I love you so much. . . Will you marry me?"

She said yes.

Nelson thanked her fellow graduates for "sharing this awesome moment with me," and said she had no idea about her now-fiance's plans.

It's believed to be the first commencement proposal in the school's history.
