Bridgewater State President: Richard Family Exemplifies 'Character'

BRIDGEWATER (CBS) -- Bridgewater State University's president Dana Mohler-Faria introduced a few special guests at Saturday's commencement ceremony.

The parents and young sister of Martin Richard, the 8-year-old boy who was killed in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, attended the special day. Parents Bill and Denise Richard are alumni of the university.

Mohler-Faria spoke about the importance of character and putting the needs of others before one's self.

Friday morning, while a jury was deciding the fate of Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Bill Richard was at Bridgewater State discussing ways the family could help a young man plan his future education, Mohler-Faria said.

"That's what I mean by character," he said.
