DA Says Fatal Shooting In Fitchburg Likely Drug-Related

FITCHBURG (AP) — The Worcester district attorney says the killing of a 24-year-old Fitchburg man is believed to be related to an illegal drug transaction.

District Attorney Joseph Early identified the man on Wednesday as Roy Rivera.

He said police got a report of shots fired at Milk Street and Alston Place in Fitchburg. They found Rivera nearby at the intersection of Milk and Otis streets, slumped over the steering wheel of a car. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A witness told The Sentinel & Enterprise the victim got out of a car and approached another vehicle on foot. He talked to someone in the other vehicle for about three minutes before someone opened fire.

The witness said the victim staggered back to his car and drove away, while the shooter sped away in the opposite direction.
