Mass. AG: NFL Spent More Time On DeflateGate Than Domestic Violence

BOSTON (CBS) -- Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey said Tuesday that she wishes the NFL would spend a tenth of the time on domestic violence and sexual assault problems in the league that they did on deflated footballs.

Healey said New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's four-game suspension over DeflateGate doesn't add up when compared to a lesser punishment for former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, who was charged with assaulting his wife in an elevator.

Keller @ Large: No Integrity In NFL

"I'm just struck by the fact that somebody like Ray Rice gets a two-game suspension and Tom Brady over deflated balls faces a four-game suspension," she told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 following a speech to the Boston Chamber of Commerce. "I think priorities are not where they need to be when it comes to this particular league."

Domestic violence and sexual assault problems are "rampant in the league," and Healey said she'd like to see more action from the NFL on both issues.

"They need more education, more outreach, more accountability," she said. "Instead we're talking about air pressure and soft pigskin."
