Daily Talker: Coffee Spill Lawsuit

A North Carolina police officer is suing Starbucks after spilling a free cup of coffee on himself.

Matthew Kohr claims he was burned after the hot coffee cup lid came off and the cup folded in on itself at a Starbucks in January 2012.

In court Monday, Kohr claims he suffers burns and emotional damage.  Kohr is seeking $50,000 in damages.

Starbuck's attorneys argued that Kohr should not be compensated because he did not purchase the coffee.

There have been similar lawsuits in the past.  In 2010, a Manhattan woman's $3 million lawsuit was dismissed after she claimed she was scalded by hot tea.  In 1994, a McDonald's customer was awarded $2.86 million after she spilled hot coffee on her lap.

What do you think of an officer suing Starbucks after he spilled hot coffee on himself?
