Brockton Man Charged In Police Chase That Led To Deadly Crash
BROCKTON (CBS) -- A Brockton man has been charged in a police chase that led to a crash in Avon, killing two passengers and injuring two others.
Marcelino Correia was arraigned while laying down in bed, surrounded by some get well wishes and balloons. He's charged with seven counts, including motor vehicle manslaughter and motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence.
Norfolk Assistant District Attorney Michael Pirrello says Correia ran through three stop signs to avoid being caught by police on April 27. The chase ended in a crash that ejected all 5 people onboard.
But Correia's attorney denies that. Patrick Reddington says one of the deceased victims was the one behind wheel. He says the 27-year-old was unconscious after the crash.
"There's nothing showing that Mr. Correia was the driver of the vehicle," Reddington said.
The assistant DA says Correia had a blood alcohol level of .10.
