'She's Ready For This,' Says BC Law Administrator Who Knew Marilyn Mosby

BOSTON (CBS) – The Maryland prosecutor who decided to charge six police officers in the death of Freddie Gray is ready for the national spotlight, according to a law school administrator who knew Marilyn Mosby during her time in Boston.

The Baltimore City state's attorney has deep ties to Boston law enforcement – her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles have been members of the Boston Police Department. Mosby attended Dover-Sherborn High School as a METCO student and graduated from Boston College Law School.

Tracey West, associate dean for external relations, diversity and inclusion at BC, worked for the dean of students while Mosby was a student, and knew her well.

"I remember her vividly as a young woman who was always, always motivated and interested in justice," West told WBZ NewsRadio 1030. "She made sure that she was exposed to both sides of the criminal justice system."

Much has been made of the fact that Mosby is 35 years old and has been on the job for just a few months. But West says Mosby is not the kind of person who made her decision for fame or glory.

"This is something which has been a part of her journey for a long time," West said. "She's ready for this, this is her role."

Mosby's confident demeanor on Friday was no surprise to West.

"She was the same Marilyn that she was back in school," West said. "She was very grounded, well-versed, comfortable."
