Knife-Wielding Suspects Who Approached Girl Wanted

BOSTON (CBS) - Police say they are looking for suspects that used knifes in two separate incidents Friday in Fall River.

Officers were called to Peckham Street about 6:35 p.m. on a report of two suspicious men in the area.

A 9-year-old girl told police that a 20-something white man about 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9-inches tall, with long hair, wearing black clothes and a green plaid jacket approached her.

She was playing in her yard when he whistled to her and a friend, asking if they wanted to get into his van for some candy, police say. The black van had a "Hello Kitty" sticker on the left-rear window.

The girl told police that she yelled and the man threw a knife at her, hitting her in the arm. She suffered a scratch but was OK.

The man ran away.

About five hours later, police were called to the Tedeschi convenience store on East Main Street on a report on a suspicious man.

A woman told police that a 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10-inch tall white man in his 20s, weighing 150-to-175 pounds, with brown eyes and wearing dark pants and a dark hooded sweatshirt asked to use her cell phone to make a call.

She agreed and that's when he used the phone while walking away from her.

When she started to follow him, he allegedly grabbed her and placed a knife to her neck. He led her for several blocks before she was able to push him away.

Police say the man got into a blue mini van that was following them.

Investigators were able to get surveillance images of the suspect wanted in the assault.

Officers are investigating both incidents and they believe they may have been done by the same suspects.
