PawSox Owners To Pitch Stadium Proposal To State Commission

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The new owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox are making a pitch to the state for a ballpark in downtown Providence.

Principal owner James Skeffington says he and co-owner Larry Lucchino, president of the Boston Red Sox, will present their proposal Monday to the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission, the state agency that owns the land they want to build on.

The commission says it decided to open the meeting to the public after consulting with team owners. The proposal was originally scheduled for a closed executive session.

The commission is asking for detailed financial, environmental and site information.

The owners of the Triple-A affiliate announced over the weekend that they'd consider buying the land rather than leasing it. They're seeking about $120 million in public aid over 30 years.
