Daily Talker: Brady Skips White House Ceremony

The Super Bowl Champion Patriots were honored by President Obama at the White House on Thursday, but Tom Brady was not with them.

Brady reportedly had a family commitment that kept him from attending.

This was the fourth time the Patriots have been guests at the White House after winning the Super Bowl. The last time was more than ten years ago, when George W. Bush was president.

There have been other notable athlete absences in the past.

In 1984, Larry Bird did not attend the White House ceremony with President Reagan. When asked about his decision, Bird quipped at the time, "If the president wants to see me, he knows where to find me."

In 1991, Michael Jordan said he wanted to spend time with his family rather than attend the ceremony after the Bulls won their first NBA title.

Of course, many recall Bruins goalie Tim Thomas in 2012. Thomas made it clear his decision was political, posting on Facebook, "I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People".

What do you think of Tom Brady's decision to not attend the White House ceremony?
