Police: Home Security Camera Catches Wellesley Break-In Suspect In The Act

WELLESLEY (CBS) – Police say a man suspected of multiple Wellesley break-ins was caught on a family's home security camera sneaking through the kitchen and removing items from the house.

The Wellesley Police Department said they arrested 25-year-old Joseph Ecker on Monday after receiving a call from a Whiting Road resident that their car and house had been entered the night before.

A video surveillance system in the home appeared to catch Ecker slowly walking through the kitchen, taking items, and leaving.

After viewing the video, which allegedly shows Ecker stealing a Bluetooth speaker and a purse, police recognized him.

Detectives viewed Ecker's social media accounts, and found that in one of his Facebook pictures he was wearing the same pullover fleece as he was seen wearing in the video.

Police executed a search warrant at Ecker's home. When inside, they found the fleece.

Officers also found the Bluetooth speaker and a Prada purse that had been reported missing during another break-in on Scotch pine Circle.

Ecker was arrested and charged with unarmed burglary, breaking and entering at night with the intent to commit a felony, and larceny from a building.

The Wellesley resident was arraigned in Dedham District Court and held on $15,000 bail.

Wellesley police said additional charges against Ecker may be filed as they investigate several other break-ins that occurred last week on Scotch Pine Circle and other areas.
