Massachusetts Statehouse Offering Access To JFK Statue
BOSTON (AP) — Visitors to the Massachusetts Statehouse will once again be able to view the statue of former President John F. Kennedy up close.
Beginning on Tuesday, visitors to the historic gold-domed building will be able to walk out a side door that leads to the statue.
Access to the statue, which captures Kennedy in mid-stride, was restricted after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, when many of the entrances and exits to the Statehouse were closed to the public for security.
The memory of the slain ex-president is still strong at the Statehouse. A plaque in the House Chamber commemorates Kennedy addressing state lawmakers.
The 8-foot bronze statue facing out toward Boston Common was dedicated in 1990 on what would have been Kennedy's 73rd birthday.
