Man With History Of Violent Crimes Wanted In South Yarmouth Stabbing

YARMOUTH (CBS) -- Yarmouth Police are looking for a man who allegedly stabbed someone in a home Saturday evening.

Police responded to a home on Mars Lane where they found a 52-year-old person who had apparently been stabbed in the stomach. The victim and other witnesses identified 22-year-old William L. Benton as the alleged stabber.

Police have not identified the victim, who was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis with life threatening injuries.

According to police, Benton repeatedly stabbed the victim in the stomach after an argument over a threat Benton allegedly made to the victim while armed with a handgun.

Police did not find Benton in the home.

Benton is wanted for Attempted Murder and Assault and Better with a Dangerous Weapon. He is also wanted on other outstanding warrants. According to police, Benton has 42 prior charges, many of which include violent crimes.

Benton is considered armed and dangerous.
