Woman Killed, 5 Injured In Fast-Spreading Nashua Fire
NASHUA, N.H. (CBS) -- A woman was killed and five other residents were injured in a fast-spreading apartment fire in New Hampshire, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded at 3:45 a.m. to Girouard Avenue for a three-alarm fire at a three-unit apartment.
Six people were home at the time, and an adult and child had to jump to safety from the second floor. A total of five residents escaped and were hospitalized, including one who needed to be med-flighted, Nashua Fire Deputy Kevin Kerrigan said.
The woman who died was trapped on the second floor and heavy fire conditions prevented firefighters from getting to her, fire officials said. She has not yet been identified.
It took about two hours to knock down the fire, and two firefighters suffered minor injures when large pieces of ceiling knocked them down.
The building is a total loss and damage is estimated at $450,000.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, and officials are investigating.
