Police Air Wing Finds Missing Boy Scouts
PITTSFIELD (CBS) -- A police helicopter located two Boy Scouts who became separated from their group while hiking in a Western Massachusetts forest.
A hiker called police at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday to let police know that two scouts went missing in the Pittsfield State Forest. Officers in off-road vehicles and a Massachusetts State Police air wing went looking for the scouts, who were equipped with food, tents and sleeping bags.
The helicopter located the scouts at 8:25 p.m. near Barry Pond, where the scouts were waving, police said. Troopers on an ATV soon made contact with the scouts and found they had already pitched a tent and started a fire.
The lost scouts were reunited with their group by 9:30 p.m.
State police said the scouts were juveniles, and their names are not expected to be released.
